I received one of these "Award Notifications" from "US Airlines" the other day in the amount of $1350.00 for 2 round trip tickets to anywhere in the US. Mine came as a 3 sided tear off envelope, the kind you receive checks in. It had BLUE blotted background and looks very real. This appears to be a check, with even an endorsement area on the back. It has everything on it that would convince anyone it is a legitimate check, numbers on the bottom(routing number, account, and check number), has "Travel Union" with an address (Scottsdale, AZ 85251) as the bank with a number below it, and dated, with amount and written amount, and then a phone number 1-80*-476-****, and signed by Charlette Koehn. This is a very convincing scam, and I almost called, but was still suspicious because it says in the letter "FINAL NOTICE", and "We have attempted to contact you on several occasions. This will be your last chance to respond.", which are absolute LIES. This is NOT even an airline AT ALL! US AIRWAYS should SUE this company for using leaching their name. It's time these scammers get thrown in jail. If I won something without entering any contest, the alone should be criminal by misleading people. I scanned the whole thing for people to see what the scam looks like, but don't have a way to post it here? It would be nice to show people what these scams look like, so they don't fall for it.

This is as old as 'Moses'. It's not a scam it's a marketing practice. Do your research.

Whether people here like it or not... it's a scam and constitutes fraud.

Most marketing schemes are fraud, but in today's day and age not a single person really gives a *** nor fights against fraud because it's too *** time consuming and rampant. The state will likely go after fraudsters that either make a BIG scene, or make too much money...

it's only then the state will get involved with fraudulent tactics.

I received a letter stating that I was awarded a 2-round trip airline tickets worth $1,375.00. The letter has my maiden name on it, which I had changed nearly 14 years ago, so that was my first red flag.

Then, the letter gives you a deadline date of October 16, 2014.

It reads:

Dear Michelle,

I am pleased to inform you that you have qualified for an award of 2-round trip airline tickets. Congratulations! These tickets are valid for travel anywhere in the continental U.S.

from any major international airport. The retail value of this award is up to $1,375.00. Certain restrictions apply.

We have attempted contacting you several times (no they haven't 2nd red flag) without success.

This is our final attempt. If we do not hear from you soon, we may need to issue the ticket vouchers to the alternate.

Please call me today at 1-87*-***-****. Regards, Angela Berry Customer Realations Manager The US Airlines logo at the top of the letter wasn't even in color, its obvious it was a mass copy.

Total scam, DO NOT fall for this and continue to report these idiots.

Guest

What a bunch of losers these people are. I received offer today 10-14-14 from Joanne foster.

$1375 "valid for travel anywhere in the continental US from any major international airport".

All the usual telltale scam signs: final offer, we've contacted you several time, etc. since I'm not calling they can feel free to "issue the ticket vouchers to the alternate".

LOL US AIRLINES !!! Really ?!?!?!

I received my scam check/voucher today. Can't hardly wait to give my account number to Joanne Fosta. I guess Kourtney had to change her name. LOL.

Don't be a fool.... stay in school..... being able to READ is important. Though common sense would alert you that NOTHING is FREE.

NOTHING !!

I'm sure they will ask for an account number to process some sort of so called tax or filing fee. Then wham!!

US Airlines 2 Free Tickets worth $1400.00

I received a letter in the mail today March 28th 2011 with no return address only post marked Phoenix, AZ. The letter inside stated that US Airlines had been trying to notify me for some time now that I was the winner of two airline tickets worth $1400.00 and that I needed to call their toll free number to claim my prize. It was signed by their vice president Joyceln Hall. I did some research and sure enough Joyceln Hall is a phony front name. If its to good to be true it usually is. The outside of the envelope was handwritten and used a regular stamp.

I got the same letter yesterday. Post marked from Phoenix, same handwritten address and US regular stamp!

The only difference is that the Vice President is Keli Jae. Note to Keli, you wasted your time, money on paper and envelope, and $.46 on a stamp, get an honest job!

Guest

I got a letter for two free tickets today signed by a vice president and they said all I had to do is go to the office where I knew they were obviously going to make some kind of pitch. If you've eve been to Vegas this promotion is nothing new at all. They have them staged all over Vegas even in the casinos. Each time they are selling a time share or vacation club of sorts and they are very nice unfortunately about a quarter of what your membership costs or more is going to the give always.

In Vegas we burned up a half and got $100 cash money each some chips and a bunch of discounted shows at the best places in town. If had more time would have gone a day early and gone to a whole bunch of them! Here's how you save a lot of time: There are layers of sales soft, medium, and hard closers and they pass on notes from each presentation to the next one you meet. So you carry a letter from the IRS to you stating you owe a huge amount of money to them with interest. You can get logos and such off the IRS sight by clicking copy then paste them on the letter to make it look official. The letter takes a few moments and saves you an hour plus you get everything they are giving away.

Condos and time shares and vacation clubs give away millions doing this. Now for your closing: The first sales makes the presentation and you play along but when the cost starts coming up in the conversation you start talking about bankruptcy and "Can I still purchase if I am bankrupt?" You start to explain your folded up letter sill stuffed somewhere and they go for the 2nd or 3rd higher sales person. They are going to ask about your bankruptcy and you are going to drop the bomb a show stopper… you are in BIG trouble with the IRS and you were carrying around this well folded up letter stuffed in you pocket from the IRS! You get a quick "Thank you please give this to the counter and get your gifts". And a shuttle which took you to the vacation property picks you up and your back on the strip in half our with cash.

I wish I could say I made up this scam-the-scammer plot but I really did have a real IRS problem and a letter the first time I went on one of these sales promotions and I really did bring it up and left the others there as I skated out. On the shuttle back to the strip I met a fellow who was on his third trip for free stuff and I shared my story! This guy was flat broke on his third Vegas trip staying free with free shows, cash and meal tickets! He loves the idea and will be coming back next time with it!

We saw some great shows gambled 5 bucks and had a blast. Now this airline "scam" is NOT truly a scam unless they are stealing from you, selling your information, or giving you absolutely nothing for taking their pitch to sell you something. I have told you how to make it very brief! That IRS letter, they won't even read, or keep, is like a stink bomb in a small room and they be moving you on quickly! Anytime they ask to see a credit card and Id then they are selling something that you can charge.

The only thing you need to know is whether what they offer is worth your time. Some have said they went through this and got real tickets after paying the tax and small ticket print fee of a total of about $55 dollars out of pocket. They were happy! I am sure the man I met in Vegas on the shuttle from the time share promotion who does this all the time would jump at this one! He is broke and they can't take a dime if they tried. His credit card is the kind you pay in advance like a security deposit so the limit is like $500. My wife’s 300k IRS problem was resolved and I don’t recommend forgery so make sure your phony IRS letter is as vague as this promotion letter we all got in the mail!

I received one from VP Amy Reed and the contact # is 866-955-****.

I got my letter about a month ago from Monica Hunt to call 866-746-****.... For fun I called and spoke with Josh.

He told me I would need to go to the travel agency in person to pick up the tickets. I booked an appointment and went down there. They introduced themselves and told me about their services and then gave me my vouchers. I had to show my ID and a credit card for identification purposes only.

Josh told me I could cover up the numbers all they needed to see was the name so I did. All they did was glance at the name to make sure it matched my ID and then gave me the vouchers.

As soon as I got home I called and made a reservation for the tickets. Departing out of Houston to Vegas in two months. I had to pay $39.24 in Tax and $4.95 for a "processing fee".

Today I was shocked that I actually got my airline tickets via FedEx!!!!!! I called up American to verify they were legit and they confirmed!!!! I suggest to anyone who gets the letter to go down, listen to their *** for a few minutes, grab your vouchers and get out of there. You dont provided any financial info until you make your reservation.

Its a pretty sweet deal if you have the time to get down there! OMG YAY VEGASSSS!!!

They aren't stealing they are sending you through a gauntlet to push a promotion which is given them by the travel industry partners to get you booked in their hotels and spending money! There is no way that you've won something and they are very careful to say you "qualified"...

by being able to read the letter, make a phone call, and show up to hear a sales pitch! And you have a credit card but they don't need the numbers because they arn't stealing they are inticing you to purchase. The cost of your purchase includes, collectively, the cost of your award plus the resorts are paying most of the "Award"! Some people hate being sold and will call this a scam.

Some get free stuff this way all the time and are fine! They sue the real scammers and get even more.

I saw two people get free cars! One for a false advertizement and the other had the contests scammer jailed and the court awarded the grand prize, a car for pressing charges to the person who stood up.

Guest

Got one yesterday, dated 10/29/12 and signed by Jamie Cape, Vice President, at 866-673-****. Apparently, they've also been burning up my phone line "several times with no successs". Mine's also worth $1298.

Guest

Recieved what appeared to be an "offical" notification (looked like a gov't document), not signed by anyone other than "Awards Department". Mine was received Oct 2012, so this scam is still going on.

Go to Vegas sometime! They do this all over town only you can get cash on the spot in some cases and free hotels food and great shows.

This is a resort funded program and the travel company has these vouchers to get you to listen for an hour. Some people buy packages and they don't rob them they simply make enough to cover the vouchers and a profit too. If they make you jump some hoops and you get wore down you won't go through with it and they still got the chance to sell you something! Did you ever wonder how many millions and millions of product rebates Never get turned in?

Some are easy to claim some not so easy. If you do go all the way to the place to collect and you pay the federal travel tax on the tickets you'll get them. They probably not refundable, Limited on dates, and bought in bulk by some resorts they want to steer you to.

Make sure you have show stopping financial problem to reveal when you have heard enough of the pitch! IRS problem, Bankruptsy looming or something that makes them think you can't pay for any resort vacation.

Guest

I got the same letter as everyone else. Their new number is (866) 601-**** if anyone wishes to call.

US AIRWAYS...NOT ALLOWED TO BOARD CONNECTING FLIGHT

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We were 4 passengers traveling from Memphis to Madrid,Spain with connecting flight at Charlotte on June 21,2015.The flight from Memphis US 5329 was delayed by an hour .The ground staff , Ms Shuang Yu was extremely helpful and went out of the way to make sure that we and everybody in the waiting area were informed constantly about when the flight would ***.She gave us seats in the front of the plane and put a priority tag on our luggage so it would be unloaded quickly and transferred to the next flight. She turned the flight around to Charlotte in the quickest time possible by getting the passengers quickly in the aircraft for Charlotte. We reached Charlotte at 830 pm and quickly started running to catch the flight to Madrid.Gate D11 was quite a distance off but two of us got there and begged the lady at the gate to allow two of the other passengers in our party who were just two to three minutes away to get into the plane with us.One of the ladies was my wife's 70 year old aunt who was coming in the airport cart.My wife reached a few minutes later but we were still waiting for her aunt to arrive. The gate attendant ,a blonde Spanish lady was extremely rude and started screaming to another lady that she could not wait and gave me and my wife an ultimatum that if we did not get in the aircraft she would lock the gate.We both got in ,but my wife's aunt's son in law decided to wait for her. When I entered the plane we requested the air purser, a really nice Spanish gentleman that we were waiting for my Wife's aunt to arrive and to wait.He said that should not be a problem.Within a few minutes my wife's aunt and her son in law were at the gate but the Gate attendant would not allow them to get in,saying that their luggage had not been transferred this flight. She came into the aircraft and told me that she could allow only the two of us to board the flight and not the other two.I begged her that we were starting a tour in Madrid the very next day and our plans would be disrupted but she kept telling us,that it does not work this way as she did not believe our baggages were transferred.I told her that our baggages had priority tags but she told me in the plane in front of the Spanish air purser,Mr Lucas to 'Shut UP'.The plane took off without our two fellow passengers who were then shunted to another British Airways flight. When we reached Madrid ,all our baggages were at the baggage claim. Our two fellow passengers arrived at 7 pm next day believing the luggage was in their plane while it had come with us.US Airways had no idea where the luggage was .THIS WAS UNNECESSARY HARRASSMENT BY US AIRWAYS,SPECIALLY BY THIS BLONDE SLIM SPANISH LADY AT GATE D11 ON 22JUNE 2015.Instead of helping us we were inconvinienced by her where she did not allow 2 of us to board while others who were late from other flights were allowed to board while she was spending time trying to be difficult .She was very egoistic and possibly parochial with us as she let other Caucasian passengers to get in and kept us outside .

US Airways NEVER Again

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Our flight was delayed out of Seattle for 3 hours due to US Airways mechanical difficulties. The flight itself, when it finally took off is 5 hours long. We missed connecting flight & missed the next connecting flight & forced to sit in Philadelphia airport with children for 5 hrs before the next flight. That's 13 hours and that was just the first leg of our trip. Was told they don't offer meal vouchers for flights that don't offer meals on them but we had to sit around for 8 hours with small children just on the first leg solely due to US Airways mechanical difficulties. US Airways behavior is rude and unprofessional. Had we arrived when we were scheduled to arrive we would have been at my parents in Albany just in time for breakfast and NOT have had to purchase food at the airport waiting 5 hours for a connecting flight due to no fault of our own. Even Southwest Airlines is better than this.

Resolved: Cold Hearted US Airways/ American

My grandfather passed away and I canceled my upcoming trip to Hawaii. After speaking with my family and Fiance they said to go ahead and go as it is much needed. My grandpa and I were very close and I know he had been sick for a while but it really devestated me. When I called to rebook the similar flight which ended costing less. I had a $2,150 credit and ended only using $1,600 and instead of them using that to pay for my $400 changing fee they asked they i paid out of pocket. I understand the policy...but when i asked them to please waive my fee and still pay for my fiances, Amanda at American, just said no and show NO compassion that my grandpa had passed. With so many airlines out there I dont have to fly with American and I dont think anyone should. I understand, business is business but I will not fly with such a cold hearted airline ever again. very disapointed.

This is business, not a charity. You agreed to pay the change fees when you bought the tickets.

Now you complain when you are held to the contract terms you agreed to. No airlines takes vouchers for the change fee. The change fee is totally separate from the ticket. You are paying for them to change the ticket.

That requires the payment of cash.

Look at it this way. You still have $550.00 worth of credit to take another trip.

Horrible Gate Agent - Nydia Employee # 203473

Dear US Airways: While trying to make an international flight from PHX - CDG my wife was denied travel because of checking in 59 minutes prior to departure with checked baggage. The manager, Nydia, refused to check baggage and removed my wife from her flight thereby making it impossible to make her connection to Paris. Nydia stated that policy was 1hr before flights, and since we were 1 minute late, it was 'policy' not to check my wife's baggage. In the view of everyone at the check-in line, Nydia was unprofessional, contemptuous, and entirely disrespectful. Nydia's employee # is 203473 - she works at the check-in gate at Phoenix-Sky Harbor Airport. This employee should be reprimanded for her actions and the damages she caused US Airways. I will never fly this airline again.

You were late. What did you expect?

That you were so special that the airlines would change the rules for you. On many airlines the computers lock out at one hour so the agent cannot add your wife to the flight. Grow up, take responsibility for your actions, and don't call people who are merely doing their jobs, bad names when you are the one at fault.

She would probably say you and your wife were irresponsible, over-demanding, childish, self-centered and similar comments. Those would be closer to the truth, than your comments about her.

Ruined Luggage

On the first leg of my trip, the baggage handlers caused a bottle in my suitcase to crack, which spilled liquid on my clothing. Then coming back, a wheel was ripped off my suitcase. All I got from customer service was some song-and-dance about them not being liable for such damage. My luggage is less than 2 years old. It has been overseas with Delta and was not damaged. I cannot afford new luggage every time I fly. I am terribly disappointed in their cavalier attitude about my luggage. US Airways has terrible service and I will not use them again unless I have to.

No airline will cover damage to wheels, handles, straps ect because they can get damaged in the hold.also if you packed a glass bottle in your carry on luggage and it broke its your fault. That is not packed properly or in the right container.you risked damaging 100s of others bags because you did not pack properly.

You cancelled our after delaying it twice blaming it on traffic control, then weather related flights, and the best was one of your employees was over their regulated hours of time to work just *** excuses. Once again you tell me repeatedly how this is not your airlines fault and I need to deal with it. Telling a Woman with two children that you have now have left stranded and will not offer any accommodations whatsoever then have the audacity to tell her to SLEEP IN THE AIRPORT WITH THE TWO CHILDREN? After completely defeating this Woman, She asks you for any help and you give her a different flight 4 hours south of her original destination or 5 hours west of her destination. Thank God a family friend drove 4 hours in the middle of the night to get them since you wouldn't even comp then a hotel! You are the worst airline out there and I hope the employee and supervisor behind the counter with attitude get fired as you both thought it was very comical to offer a partial refund expecting us to go and purchase three tickets last minute on another airline to go home which we could not afford. Thanks alot US Airways for a horrible experience!

This could happen with any airline. No airline will pay for hotel when its weather or air traffic control or any other reason out of their control. And im sure they werent making up exuses for cancellation.they have to report all delays and cancellations to faa and dot and reason. They want to get you to your destination, they need to get their crews and airplanes on to the next destination because they have other flights and if flights get cancelled crews and aircraft are out of sequence and it causes more problems to the operation.airlines do not want to cancel flights. But when they do the option is to get in the next available flight,or opt for a refund or you can take another flight with that carrier to a different destination.if you choose another airport the airlines will waive fees but then your on your own from there on.Almost every airline operates this way.all airlines are different but this part us the same

Guest

It is clear that you do not fly frequently. Airlines do not provide hotel rooms for delays caused by weather.

It is clear that you did not read the terms of the ticket you bought. If sleeping in an airport with TWO KIDS is a problem for you, you should have brought more money to get a hotel room for them.

Commercial airlines do not fly without Air Traffic Control approval. If the weather is bad, Air Traffic Control may not let a flight leave because a) other airplanes are backed up and circling around your destination airport, b) ATC is not allowing planes to leave until the backlog of flights decreases, or c) the weather between you and your destination makes it unsafe.

You snicker at the time limits for crew member's work, but that is federal rules.

A flight and crew may be at an airport ready to go, but ATC keeps them from leaving while their time ticks, ticks, ticks away. When their time runs out, they cannot fly, without a full crew the plane cannot fly. Airlines do not keep spare crew members hanging out at every airport. If there is no replacement crew member, one has to be flown in.

None of these are the airlines fault. They owe you nothing. Under the terms of the contract YOU AGREED TO, the airlines offered you a flight the following day, an alternative flight to another airport, or a refund of the money for the remaining flight. This was good customer service.

The fact you did not want to accept one of these and thought YOU WERE ENTITLED to more than the contract you signed provided, is strictly the consequences of your choices.

Guest

Actually they do I have had several airlines provide a room for any inconvenience. I can tell by your response that you must work in this industry and if you do I hope that you are not rude to families that just want too go home.

You have to remember that we do not work in the Airline industry and are not versed on all rules and regulations. Pulling onto the runway for an hour on the way there and sitting there on the runway for a employee is over time is understandable but why board the plane? Why would you be so rude as to tell someone who was being nice and respectful towards you to go sleep in the chairs very disrespectfully? Your points to the behavior of these particular employees are not addressed what so ever.

Is that not noted in the contract that I agreed to when purchasing these tickets of how to treat US Airways Employees acting like two year olds? They didn't cancel our flight because of weather that was just one of the many excuses they used to try to get out of the fact that they clearly were in the wrong. Again I was calm and very respectful to them unlike the person next to me screaming at them demanding free everything.

Apparently common courtesy doesn't exist anymore. Clearly.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1012091

Frequently people treat hearing something contrary to what they want as being rude. Is that the situation here?

It does not matter how "nice and respectful" you are, you are not entitled to a hotel room for a weather delay. Airlines do provide hotel rooms when they are at fault, e.g mechanical problems. You have not shown or even explained why this is any thing other than a weather delay. Why were you not nicer, simply by not asking for something that you knew you were not entitled to under the ticket contract, the terms of which you read.

Should agents be nicer. Absolutely, but it must be difficult to be nice when you have a full planeload of people requesting and demanding hotel rooms and other things they are not entitled to. It is easy for frustration to slip into the agent's tone of voice.

I do not work for an airline, I just believe people should take responsibility by accepting what they agreed to in the contract.

You say you do not know all the rules and regulations, but this is a fairly common one. When you bought your ticket you checked a box that you read and/or agreed to those terms.

Were you lying when you checked that box?

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1012235

Okay as I stated clearly above. There were several excuses that were used, Weather was only one of them if you re-read what I have written then I am sure you can see the frustrating occurrence we encountered.

Regardless of your opinion on my issue which you have every right to state. I will respectfully decline to have you call me a liar or refer to me as one.

I do hope that the next time someone gives three different issues of why your trip is not going as planned remember to eat your own words, Memorize that contract and embrace that 19 hour stay at the airport with the rude agents telling you to enjoy your chairs with your children. You can focus on weather all you want but that wasnt the issue just again an excuse.

~Regards.

It wasn't enough that my flight was delayed but their crew also ruined my luggage. They responded to my email saying that they aren't liable for any damages caused to my luggage as I was supposed to report it in person when I arrived. Hello! It's 11pm and you've been on a plane all day so ofcourse you just want to get the heck out of there. I paid a lot for my plane ticket, I respected all their plane crafts I got into, and cleaned after myself. They just couldn't simply train their crew to respect customer belongings and then turn around and say they aren't liable for any damages.

Most airlines have a time limit to report damage.you agreed to that, you didnt follow through.no one to blame but yourself.airlines need to see damage when you arrive,so then they know the damage happened while the bag is in their custody.

What a joke. I had a conceding flight in Philadelphia. I received a VM wile I was in mid flight saying that my conceding fight was canceled. Phone customer care was a 2hr hold. Got to the customer care in the airport waited an hr for the woman to be useless. Her exact words were I can't help you. I asked if any flights going to near citys. She looked at me and flat out said to me Sir I told you I can't help you you are going to have to stay here until tomarow night. I ended up booking a flight with United and flew home that way. What a unprofessional joke. There mistake cost them a customer and cost me 600 to get home.

My flight to paris was cancelled because their plane broke so they put me on United. Needless to say they lost my luggage which they tell me is here in Paris but it's been 7 days and no one can locate it!! They lied and told me the transferred it to United the day it arrived but United doesn't have it!! They are so rude and unprofessional as well in Paris at Charles de Gaulle, they refuse to answer the phone now when I call...I just want my luggage!
