I have flown with
US Air many times. Their personnel is always rude, inconsiderate, lazy, and unhelpful. Finally their
baggage handlers kicked my boombox to death. The boombox was new wrapped in a
canvas bag by soft-cover books and a bed pillow! They had to have opened the bag, kick it around, and put it back because the books were not damaged. I will never fly with them again.
I don't understand why it is so difficult to behave kindly and decently; be on time, exhibit
professionalism, smile. I am not surprised that
US Air has the most complaints of any airline.

While you may be correct in general, you are wrong in this case. Note also that they didn't steal it, which they could have, they were malicious - and KICKED it. You didn't see the damage.

Packing any electronic equipment in a canvas bag using only books and a pillow as a "cushion" is asking for trouble. Most airports use automated machinery to sort bags to the correct flight for loading. This sorting process uses high speed belts and machinery that "kicks" the bags to the correct belt using more force than any human could inflict on the bag. Did you tell the agent who checked you in of the bag's contents and have it marked fragile? They're not psychic you know. Packing fragile items in checked luggage is never a good idea.
